Principal Optical Coating Engineer will lead efforts to develop new optical products and introduce critical processes at our state-of-the-art optical coating facility; provide expert-level support for resolving critical issues. The company seeks a candidate with broad expertise in thin film optical coating, including vacuum coating equipment and technologies. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with UV optical coatings, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the deposition systems. The candidate should be able to develop and implement new optical coatings, design and evaluate anti-reflection and high-reflection coatings, beam splitters and filters for VUV, DUV, UV, visible and near IR spectral ranges. The role will require collaboration with key decision-makers to coordinate efforts across different groups and ensure ongoing technological advancements, oversee established production processes and facilitate future development.
Key Job Responsibilities:- Lead and contribute to the company's DUV optical coating development program
- Identify and address critical issues that impact program success, explore future concepts, and implement solutions that align with company objectives
- Influence technology choices and establish efficient operations for DUV optical coating
- Evaluate development progress to ensure new products meet program goals and drive continuous improvement
- Develop and implement designs, workflow controls, and production protocols
- Report development program process metrics, SPC, and support database traceability
- Communicate development progress through reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting R&D efforts and upcoming challenges
- Demonstrate accountability for results and contribute to the overall success of the group

Requirements Qualifications and Education Requirements:- Advanced Degree in Science or Engineering, preferably with a Major in Thin Film or Optics
- Expert knowledge of Electron Beam, Ion Beam Sputtering, Ion-assisted optical film deposition technology, and deep understanding of vacuum equipment operation
- Thorough grasp of thin film theory and modeling software, as well as different design concepts
- Deep knowledge of various optical and coating materials, with experience in cleanroom operations, optics handling, cleaning, and contamination control for UV applications
- Extensive experience in optical coating design and development of processes specific to laser optics
- Expertise in deep and vacuum UV coatings
- Strong knowledge and experience in metrology of optical thin films
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks, organize, and prioritize workloads effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate on broader company projects and with cross-functional teams
- 10-15 years of direct industry experience with UV optical coatings
