Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an experienced engineer to join the Thermal Hydraulics Testing and Analysis team. The position requires knowledge of single phase and two-phase fluid flow and heat transfer. The successful candidate will join a highly technical, applied technology development organization responsible for sponsoring fundamental, single-phase and multi-phase heat transfer experiments and developing advanced thermal hydraulic design methods and analysis tools. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Perform lead technical responsibilities for the successful execution of complex thermal hydraulic experimental programs; design test programs, specify test conditions, evaluate data and issue test reports to characterize the thermal performance of nuclear reactor core designs; directly interface across multiple organizations and technical disciplines to guide test hardware design and manufacture, develop data acquisition and processing algorithms, develop and implement standard and specialized test instrumentation and ensure appropriate test facility operational procedures; work closely with reactor design organizations to use the test data to develop and/or improve design methods and analysis capabilities for new and existing reactor designs; provide technical leadership in thermal hydraulic testing. The ability to work in a team environment will be vital to success in this position.


Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or PhD degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.

Preferred Skills


Degrees in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
GPA of 3.4/4.0 or higher.
Experience/course work with single phase and multi-phase heat transfer.
Experience developing and implementing advanced instrumentation and experimental methods.
Experience developing functional requirements and test specifications for test execution and data evaluation.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong drive to improve processes, solve problems, and adapt to change.

Pay Range

$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations
