Position Summary

The Engineering Lab Manager will oversee and manage electronics in our engineering lab. This role combines responsibilities of managing lab operations with hands-on technical duties involving electronics equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electronics engineering, experience with lab management, and proficiency in working with various electronic measurement and test equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee daily operations of electrical engineering Lab, ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient working environment.
  • Manage inventory of lab supplies and equipment, including ordering, tracking, and maintaining stock levels of small parts and small tools.
  • Managing and tracking calibration requirements for related equipment.
  • Assist in budgeting for lab supplies and equipment, providing recommendations for purchases and upgrades.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate electronic equipment such as oscilloscopes, voltmeters, power supplies, and network gear.
  • Perform detailed testing and troubleshooting of electronic circuits and systems. Analyze test results and diagnose faults.
  • Maintain accurate records of lab activities, test results, and maintenance logs.
  • Provide technical support to engineering teams, including assistance with experimental setups and problem-solving.
  • Assist with the assembly, modification, and repair of electronic devices and systems.
  • Set up and configure electronic test equipment and lab apparatus for experiments and testing.
  • Train and supervise junior engineers and interns in lab procedures and equipment use.
  • Provide hands-on support in the setup and operation of various electronic testing and measurement devices.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are documented and that any issues are promptly addressed.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and ensure that all staff are trained in safety protocols.
  • Prepare reports on lab performance, research progress, and budget expenditures for review by senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Participate in process improvement with respect to the lab procedures.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred; U.S. Military Electronics Technician experience considered in lieu of education.
  • 5 or more years of experience in laboratory management, including staff supervision and facilities oversight.
  • Familiarity with Oscilloscopes, Voltmeters, Signal Generators, and related equipment.
  • Experience in managing lab operations, including ordering, tracking, small tools, small parts, and all related activities.
  • Experience tearing down, repairing, and rebuilding complex electronic devices; experience with satellite electronics desired.
  • Proactive in identifying opportunities for lab improvements and staying updated with the latest technology trends.
  • High attention to detail and workmanship and ability to assist others with their designs.
  • Knowledge of SMT Rework processes and general related workflows is desired.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (i.e., working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers, far visual acuity, and peripheral vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Salary Range

$110,000.00 - $125,000.00

However, Innoflight considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills. Employees may be eligible for profit sharing and discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
