Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in either Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

The Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer will join the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) team and work in an integrated team environment with other systems and specialty engineers to develop solutions that include a background in all systems development life cycle aspects. In this role, the candidate will be flexible and able to support various tasks on short notice.

The selected candidate will perform the work under the direction of the Systems Engineering Lead and multiple product owners and will require interfacing with team members, C2BMC management, and government customers to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within the resources available.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide Use Case briefing development support to junior systems engineering team members.

  • Focus on supporting the development and review of Interface Control Documents, System/Subsystem Requirements, Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) development, and authoring and performing formal and informal engineering reviews.

  • Adhere to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts as required.

  • Actively participate in Agile development efforts, including iteration planning, status, and agile team leadership.

  • Contribute to implementation by analyzing high-level needs and defining a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements.

  • Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings, and write and implement project engineering plans.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of experience, or a PhD and 0 years of experience.

  • Sr. Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of experience, or a PhD and 4 years of experience.

  • Experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g., Interface Control Documents, Use Cases Briefings, Sequence Diagrams).

  • Understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.

  • Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers.

  • Proven track record of applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.

  • Experience decomposing requirements from parent-level to lower system/subsystem-level requirements.

  • Ability to write and implement engineering plans within a project.

  • Willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.

  • Must have a current active in-scope DoD issued secret security clearance at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Top Secret clearance.

  • Experience working within an Agile development environment.

  • Domain experience with both Space and Missile Defense.

  • Experience in mission analysis and SysML modeling in support of MBSE.

  • A DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher is highly desired.
