We are seeking a Sr. Backend Engineer responsible for designing, delivering, and operating services on cloud infrastructure that supports critical functionalities such as navigation, user preferences, authentication, and more. In this role, you will work closely with product owners, mobile and embedded application engineers to understand the product requirements for the online services under your purview. You may also engage directly with external teams to learn about existing corporate systems, experiment with them, and participate in architecture and integration decisions.

Responsibilities:
- Design testable, scalable, and observable backend services for a global mobile application.
- Develop backend service solutions, including cloud infrastructure setup, monitoring, alerting, and integration with multiple 3rd-party APIs.
- Collaborate closely with mobile app developers, 3rd-party API developers, and software architects to deliver optimal solutions.
- Troubleshoot production issues and develop and release hotfixes as needed.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipeline infrastructure.
- Participate in prototyping backend services using Go, with potential implementation in Kotlin or Java.
- Engage in decision-making processes regarding the choice of technologies and tools for backend development.
Required Skillset:
- 7+ years of experience with statically-typed languages such as Java, Kotlin, Scala, C/C++, or Rust, with a strong emphasis on shipping production code.
- Proven track record of delivering performant API integrations and interfaces.
- Experience with major cloud providers, particularly AWS, though experience with GCP or Azure is also valued.
- Experience in architecting, building, and operating cloud-native backend services.
- A flexible attitude and an entrepreneurial mindset, with a willingness to engage outside of your usual responsibility area, learn new technologies, and tackle challenges beyond backend development.
- Strong proficiency in writing and maintaining robust unit tests and ensuring code quality.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
Bonus Skillset:
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with GraphQL APIs, including query tuning and managing multiple resolvers.
- Background in authentication or security practices.
- Familiarity with automated testing tools and methodologies.
- Japanese fluency (helpful, but not required).
