As an industry leading manufacturer of engineered wood products, the Weyerhaeuser Product Engineering, Codes and Standards team plays a critical role in ensuring code compliance and supporting the specification and application of Weyerhaeuser engineered wood products.
This engineering position offers a challenging and rewarding career opportunity to work for the ISO 17025 accredited Weyerhaeuser Engineering and Materials Testing Laboratory in Federal Way, WA.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our team of talented engineers to execute structural wood products testing, laboratory development, and product engineering responsibilities. Key Activities include:
- Actively participate in a safety-driven workplace culture.
- Product testing tasks include experimental design, work coordination with laboratory personnel, analysis, and reporting for projects that may range from small-scale fastener performance tests to full-scale floor or wall assembly seismic investigations.
- Laboratory development projects include designing or overseeing modifications to existing equipment or acquisition of new equipment to perform a wide variety of structural tests.
- Product engineering responsibilities may include development of structural design values and guidelines for Weyerhaeuser products, evaluation of new product opportunities, analysis of manufacturing quality assurance data, participation in plant trials, and representation of Weyerhaeuser's interests in a variety of industry activities.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering (or equivalent technical degree) from an accredited institution. Master's degree preferred in wood science and/or structural engineering from an accredited institution OR equivalent experience as a structural design engineer with a wood engineering focus along with PE license.
- Engineer-in-training certification required as a minimum, Professional Engineering or Structural Engineering licensure preferred.
- Career-minded individual with a desire to become an integral part of our team and grow into a technical expert in the field of wood engineering.
- Strong technical competence in wood engineering, structural testing and/or structural design.
- Strong analytical, technical writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills
- Experience with mechanical testing preferred but not required.
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting salary range of $72,700 to $142,500 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7-10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees can enroll in our company's 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.
Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with paid vacation for up to 3 weeks to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 hours along with paid parental leave for all full-time employees
