Chief Electrical Estimator

Position Summary: One of Insight Global’s major clients are seeking a Chief Electrical Estimator to join their team. Qualified candidates will be responsible for the development of estimates related to the construction of primarily water-related infrastructure. This includes wastewater treatment facilities, stormwater drainage systems or facilities, desalination plants, and similar structures. Selected candidates will be specifically responsible for the estimation of the electrical components of facility construction. This includes switchgear, motor controls, transformers, control panels, conduit, etc. Daily responsibilities include:

• Develop accurate and timely electrical construction estimates on which competitive bids and proposals are based
• Analyze and interpret detailed drawings and specifications.
• Determine and price value-engineered alternatives to plans and specifications.
• Perform budget pricing from schematic drawings and narrative.
• Draft scope letters, proposals, and vendor solicitations.
• Lead the functions of the Estimating Department; the education and development of junior personnel; on-going development and maintenance of computerized estimating programs and databases; congenial relations with clients and vendors.
• Oversees the preparation of crew build-ups and production rate determinations.
• Determines construction equipment selection.
• Work on change-orders and cost-to-complete estimates of on-going projects.
• Help create and communicate company standards for estimating electrical design/build and plans and specs work.
• Review estimates created by others for accuracy and completeness.
• Experience in train and developing estimators – entry level to experienced IBEW Craft members
• Delivers estimate presentations to the Executive Review Committee.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
• 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
• Supervisory experience desired, able to delegate, coordinate work of others, monitor performance, and deliver feedback.
• Experience in estimating heavy industrial water/wastewater/public works infrastructure electrical construction projects.
• Demonstrated experience in electrical power, instrumentation/controls, schematics, and control diagrams.
• Experience with applicable estimating software
