Respiratory Interventions (RI) , a division of Medtronic, offers a portfolio of innovative solutions that spans the continuum of care. We help with early detection and treatment of diseases, and reduce complications to accelerate recovery from patient conditions. We focus on expanding global access to our therapies that improve clinical outcomes for gastrointestinal diseases and cancers, and patients with respiratory compromise.

We are looking to hire 2 Principal Software Engineers. These positions are exciting and new opportunities to work with Medtronic’s Patient Monitoring and Respiratory Interventions businesses. Currently part of Medtronic, Medtronic has announced its intention of separation of Patient Monitoring and Respiratory Interventions businesses to advance the future growth and innovation of PM and RI and to reallocate investments and resources within Medtronic.

The intended separation would provide our team a bold opportunity to unleash our potential and move with even more speed and agility. Apart from Medtronic, we would leverage increased investments to fuel meaningful innovation and further amplify our impact on patient care.

The location for these roles is Carlsbad, CA. There may be an opportunity for hybrid work (onsite 3 days and home 2 days).

A Day in the Life

Design, develop and test complex software modules and take ownership of these modules in terms of functionality, performance, and quality.

  • Identify and implement the best-in-class systems software development processes, methods, tools, standards, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and software teams to identify user needs and develop product requirements, system requirements/specifications, software requirements/specifications, software architecture/design specifications, and implementation.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM:

An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

Leadership and Talent Management:

Typically provides guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area. Typically manages major/moderately complex projects, involving delegation of work and review of work products, at times.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other Technical degree
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

Nice to Have

  • Strong C/C++ development with working knowledge of OOA&D and UML
  • Knowledge of Qt framework and DDS is desirable.
  • Highly knowledgeable of low-level debugging
  • Highly knowledgeable and demonstrated experience in software engineering processes and product life cycles
  • Experience in embedded software engineering of complex systems interfacing electrical and mechanical hardware preferred
  • Experience developing unit testing with Google Test
  • Experience developing software in a regulated industry such as medical, aerospace, defense, etc. preferred
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Works well by collaborating with the team.

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive plan.
