Scientist - Cell Engineering for Cell-state Profiling (Leonetti Group)
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco (CZ Biohub SF ) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. We are guided by our values of scholarly excellence; disruptive innovation; hands-on engineering/hacking/building; partnership and collaboration; open communication and respect; inclusiveness; and opportunity for all.
The Opportunity
Come join an interdisciplinary team of biologists, data scientists, and engineers! We are seeking a Scientist - Cell Engineering for Cell-state Profiling to spearhead our next efforts to engineer libraries of cells expressing functional reporters, and to analyze imaging data to extract quantitative insights about cellular responses.
What You'll Do
- Design and validate live-cell fluorescence reporters of functional responses
- Lead high-throughput cell engineering pipelines in both transformed and stem-cell derived cell types.
- Conduct image-based CRISPR screens
- Partner with microscopy experts to quantify cellular responses and identify new cellular mechanisms
- Partner with cell biologists and data scientists to build models of cellular state
- Explain technical concepts to a multi-disciplinary team of biologists, bioengineers, and data scientists at the Biohub
- Author publications & mentor junior colleagues
What You'll Bring
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biophysics, or a related discipline
- At least 5 years of expertise in tissue culture and cell engineering, including CRISPR
- At least 2 years of experience in cell biology assays involving high-dimensional examination (ex: genetic screens, scRNASeq…)
- At least 2 years of experience in live-cell fluorescence microscopy
- At least 2 years of experience in quantitative data analysis (Python, R, etc…)
- A deep knowledge of cellular signaling and stress pathways
- A passion for research and understanding how cells work
- An enthusiasm for team science and open science
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Nice to have -
- Experience with primary cells or stem cells-based systems
- Experience in machine learning and computer vision
- Experience with network analysis
Compensation
- Scientist I = $100,000 - $137,500
- Scientist II = $112,000 - $154,000
What We Provide
- Resources to disrupt and innovate at the frontiers of our knowledge of biology and disease
- A collegial and collaborative environment consisting of diverse expertise
- Access to collaborators, resources, and facilities at our three partner universities (Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco) and at partner organizations in the Bay Area and beyond
- Competitive compensation and benefits commensurate with experience
