The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 5 is currently recruiting for a Project Engineer (Transportation Engineer V) in Anne Arundel County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this SHA position or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Nature of Work: This is a supervisory, administrative, and managerial position. This position functions as the District Engineering Systems and Design Team-Senior Engineer, which will simultaneously manage consultant and in-house design groups in the design and preparation of transportation project construction documents for multiple complex transportation projects. The position requires expert knowledge in the development of contract documents for the construction of over $30 million worth of transportation improvements. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following: the preparation of cost estimates; working with the Chief Engineering Systems Team in identifying and managing Funds 77, 30, 76 and 87 projects for Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, and Saint Mary's counties; developing and maintaining design schedules to meet advertisement dates that are scheduled for the fiscal year budget; preparing reports and memorandums; supervising and providing direction and guidance in projects developed in-house and by consultants; coordinating with District Maintenance, Construction, and Traffic offices to identify, implement and construct transportation improvements; representing SHA at meetings with federal, state and local elected officials, community groups, business associations and the general public; and administering the administration's policies and procedures to develop contract documents. The Project Engineer functions as a direct assistant to the Chief Engineering Systems Team.

Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years experience in professional engineering.

Selective Qualification: Two and a half (2.5) years of the required experience must have involved experience in design project management.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability).

Notes:

  1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
  2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidates must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
