Position Summary
The mission of the Engineer I is to deliver quality engineering and design documents that are constructable and meet the critical success factors defined for the project.
The essential functions of the Engineer are to:
Client Perspective:
This perspective focuses on the individual's relationships with clients.   1. Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
  2. Attend client and public meetings - days or nights.
Internal Business Process Perspective:
This perspective focuses on the internal business processes that drive the practice or department performance. It includes items such as technical expertise, teamwork, engagement, and impact on group culture.   1. Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering plans and reports.
  2. Review the construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.
  3. Show responsibility for job specific quality as defined in a Practice's or Project's quality control plan.
  4. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  5. Read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  6. Assist in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction documents, studies, permits, and designs for various projects.
  7. Assist in the development of construction cost estimates for various projects.
  8. Work under close and immediate supervision of a licensed engineer to prepare design computations, design documents, and quantity estimates, with increasing proficiency and independence.
  9. Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  10. Follow policies and procedures set forth in the CDG Employee Handbook.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Assist with the preparation of project deliverables according to the planned direct labor and expense budgets outlined by the Project Manager or Practice Leader.
  2. Communicate effectively with the Project Manager or Practice Leader to understand established schedule milestones, as well as direct labor and expense budgets.
  3. Efficiently manage time towards completion of assignments within schedule and budget.
  4. Successfully achieve the financial goals set forth for your position (quality work within project budgets, direct labor hours, etc.).

  1. Work with Supervisor to identify and complete professional development, skills development, knowledge acquisition, and personal growth. (i.e., new software, conferences, certifications, licensure, etc.).

  4. Successfully maintain CEU's and licensure as assigned/required.
  5. Actively pursue licensure as a Professional Engineer.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • BS degree in civil engineering with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Preferred: Registration as Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
  • Valid driver's license.
Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and financial functions.
  • Basic level of computer-aided design using AutoCAD, Civil3D, and/or OpenRoads preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Seeing, hearing, talking, standing, stooping, bending, walking, reading, and writing.
  • Reaching with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to work extended hours at times.
Environment:
  • Predominantly office environment: some overnight travel is required.
  • The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate.
  • Occasionally works in outside weather conditions, possibly for extended assignments.
  • The noise level on the construction site is often loud.
