The ideal candidate will have a passion for improving service stability with the goal of providing the best possible experience for our players. This role is a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.

Responsibilities

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with designers and other engineers to support and improve Hearthstone’s backend game services, with a focus on reliability and performance.
  2. Document and peer review technical designs and code submissions with other engineers.
  3. Support and diagnose emergent issues in a live environment.
  4. Design and implement the server-side components of data driven services.
  5. Promote Blizzard’s core values.

Minimum Requirements

  1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development and a strong understanding of C++.
  2. Experience working in client/server architectures.
  3. Comfortable maintaining and improving live services.
  4. Knowledgeable in distributed systems and networking.
  5. Familiarity with live game-as-a-service development cycles.
  6. Experience implementing and using various metrics-gathering and monitoring tools to support a live service.
  7. Self-motivation and willingness to pitch in on any areas of game development.
  8. Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with other disciplines.

Extra Points

  1. Database experience (Relational or Non-relational).
  2. Experience with transaction processing systems.
  3. Linux development experience (server applications, gdb debugging, etc.).
  4. Familiarity with higher level network protocols such as HTTP, SNMP, SMTP and FTP.
  5. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related degree.
  6. Familiarity with Hearthstone or other Blizzard Entertainment products.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $101,000.00 - $186,754.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
