Gatik’s Class 3-7 autonomous box trucks are commercially deployed in multiple markets including Texas, Arkansas, and Ontario, Canada.

About the role

The NPI MFG Engineer will help to set up assembly areas, build prototype components and systems, install those systems on the autonomous trucks, configure and bring up new vehicles, and perform end of line testing and system debugging.

Location: This role will be onsite 5 days a week at our MV office at 161 E Evelyn Ave, MV, CA. (will require travel to Texas and Michigan 40 to 50%)

What you'll do

  • Develop production process flow and manufacturing methodology for all AV hardware
  • Develop detailed work instructions to install autonomous sensors to the trucks (Radars, Lidars, Cameras, Modems, computers, antennas, DBW and other electronic components)
  • Manage AV technicians through the production process and troubleshoot manufacturing issues
  • Provide DFM, DFX feedback to design team for mass production of AV vehicles
  • Develop custom assembly aids, tools and fixtures for mass production and at scale builds.
  • Develop PFMEA for all critical assembly process and develop mitigation plans to reduce the RPN numbers
  • Perform bring-up tasks on AV vehicles and provide feedback to software and firmware team on the status of the scripts and results
  • Connect to the trucks to perform AV sensor bringup for firmware and software
  • Test the end of line testing and system debugging, generate test reports and provide feedback to the EE team
  • Take the initiative in understanding, communicating, and resolving any vehicle issues and concerns during the prototype build and mass production
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other team members to develop technical solutions related to the operation and performance of autonomous vehicle systems

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of experience building automotive prototype or small and/or production run vehicles
  • A masters or bachelors in engineering degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics or equivalent field or technicians certificate plus relevant experience and training
  • Excellent working knowledge of mechanical and electronic components of vehicles
  • Experience in working with safety critical robotic systems
  • Experience in troubleshooting error codes and for different diagnostic codes and how to troubleshoot them
  • Ability to think logically and remove bias from evaluation of problems - demonstrate problem-solving skills while isolating, documenting, and tracking issues systematically
  • A driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Proven experience as an auto mechanic
  • Must be able to lift and move 50lbs frequently
  • Enthusiasm for the AV industry as well as safety/mobility
  • Exemplary organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A passion for continuous learning and improvement
