Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium-Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid. Sodium-Ion is cheap, readily available and safe, making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market.

Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, SunPower, Fluence, and Enovix. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures.

We are a team of engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and partners driven by a shared ambition to set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience.

About the Job:

Peak Energy is looking for a Mechanical Systems Design Lead to own the mechanical design of our utility scale sodium-ion energy storage systems (ESS). The Mechanical Systems Design Lead will be responsible for mechanical system and component designs and will work with other design, manufacturing and program teams to provide leadership both at the high level in design direction and deep in the engineering implementation. This person is both a leader and a doer.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical lead for the mechanical design of Peak’s HV ESS from early architecture through continuous improvement
  • Define product design direction by meticulously exploring broadly and deeply, while trading and communicating design decisions
  • Define and spearhead selection and development of tools, infrastructure and design practices for a growing team
  • Manage the ESS BOM
  • Develop and manage system and component requirements
  • Interface tightly with partners such as thermal and structural analysts and other design functions to inform design decisions
  • Play a key role in developing and managing Peak’s mechanical and thermal component sourcing strategy, balancing short and long term goals
  • Drive and participate in a culture of rapid protoyping and testing
  • Support validation of Peak products
  • Ensure a smooth transition from maturing product to production-ready
  • Spearhead growth of the mechanical design team and mentor more junior members in the greater organization
  • A great team spirit and get-it-done attitude. No job is too big or too small.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience working with HV systems
  • Strong structural and thermal engineering fundamentals
  • Extensive use of commercial CAD and PLM software
  • Familiarity with FEA/CFD and other common CAE practices
  • Familiarity with high voltage battery system or power electronics design
  • Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products
  • Hands on prototyping, validation and testing experience
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Battery modeling, simulation and test experience
  • Product design experience with high volume automated manufacturing requirements
