Process Engineer - Extrusion

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The senior process engineer partners with individuals across the business to lead and support our continuous improvement efforts in our blown film extrusion processes. Senior Process Engineer will be hands-on and instrumental in driving process optimization, quality enhancements, and operational efficiency. Use of Six Sigma methodologies and advanced data analysis will be pivotal in shaping the future of our processes. Collaborates with New Product Development team to ensure the plant processes and equipment are capable and ready for industrialization. As a member of the Continuous Improvement Department support the coaching and development of problem solvers. Extrusion mentoring, development, and support will be provided by extrusion leaders throughout the company (will similarly aid in mentoring and developing less experienced individuals).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process Documentation and Standardization: Establish and maintain standardized processes, ensuring meticulous documentation of process parameters, experiments, and improvements. Facilitate knowledge sharing and training sessions.
  • Strategic Process Optimization: Develop and implement strategic initiatives to optimize the full value stream, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry best practices.
  • Advanced Data Analysis: Utilize sophisticated data analysis techniques and statistical methods (when needed) to extract actionable insights, identify improvement opportunities, and drive data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Problem Solving Leadership: Lead Lean/Six Sigma projects with a hands-on approach, mentor teammates, and champion a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including, Sales, Marketing, NPD, Operations, and Quality to drive collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality, on-time delivery, lowering costs, and improving overall efficiency.
  • Innovation and Technology Integration: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and innovations. Proactively develop business cases with ROIs to integrate new methodologies and equipment to enhance productivity and quality standards.
  • Quality Assurance Leadership: Provide expert guidance to the quality assurance team, offering insights into root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Safety and Compliance: Lead safety compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, conducting regular safety audits, and fostering a culture of safety awareness among team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel up to 25% (domestic).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Physics, Chemistry, or other similar disciplines.
  • 5+ years' experience in process engineering.
  • 3+ years' experience in polymer extrusion (preferably blown polyethylene).

Competencies

  • Proficient in Excel / MS Office suite
  • Experienced with Minitab or other Statistical Software
  • Experience with structured problem-solving such as A3 and DMAIC
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with others to lead peers
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills across multiple formats
  • Experience leading teams/sub-teams helpful
  • Ability to learn, understand, and contribute to, controls systems, machine data acquisition, and business analytics systems
  • Must be able to climb ladders, lift 50 lbs., stand on feet all day, and communicate well in a noisy environment.
