Sharp Tooling Solutions is a leading full-service supplier for the aerospace, automotive and defense industries specializing in the design and construction of checking fixtures and tooling. We are currently seeking to fill a full-time Aerospace & Automotive Designer position in our Romeo facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Position reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for creation of tooling solutions and detailed tool design drawings in support of our military, automotive, aerospace and commercial markets.
- Review the Statement of Work and verify that all information needed is available to complete design.
- Design to customer-specific intervals and standards.
- Attend all scheduled internal design review meetings; review the Statement of Work and tool model with manufacturing and quality team.
- Participate in tooling design reviews to ensure tools support the customer build plan, are usable by production and meet the established technical, safety and ergo requirements.
- Interact with internal and external customers and suppliers regarding engineering issues.
- Be a fundamental part in the technical trouble shooting of tooling related issues, cause and corrective action analysis.
- Ability to cross-check some design work in team-based environment.
- Knowledgeable in functionality of a variety of tools and tooling materials.
- Possess knowledge of customer design standards including how to access CAD supplied design standards as needed.
- Comply fully with electronic document and manual document control systems.
- Work in the most efficient manner and deliver designs within or before required due date and budgeted hours.
- Must be able to achieve quality and production goals.
- Must be a team player.
- Must have the ability to multi-task.
- All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-D modeling experience (CATIA V5) of assembly fixtures, machine fixtures, bond & lay-up tools and facility equipment.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge in geometric tolerances.
- Understands reference systems.
- CATIA V6 (3DX) or NX design experience is a plus.
- Preferred Aerospace and/or Automotive tool design experience.
- Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Problem-solving, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or a combination of relevant design work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations.
- This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements; therefore, it is required that the candidate must be a “US Person” as defined by 22.C.F.R. §.
Pay Rate and Benefits
- Pay Rate dependent on qualifications
- Monday – Friday work Schedule with overtime
