**EARLY CAREER - POSITION OVERVIEW**

As an early career water resources engineer (or engineer-in-training) or scientist in our water resources and engineering practice in Portland, OR, you will apply your academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world situations related to surface water systems, water supply, regulatory compliance, resource management, engineering, and planning while also learning and expanding your business skills for a successful consulting career. Our clients ask us to address their new ventures and ongoing projects involving water and natural resources and civil infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities – Early Career Water Resources Engineer or Scientist

  • Perform surface water modeling including hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and water quality.
  • Conduct hydrologic and pollutant load modeling of watersheds and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Assist with NPDES and 401 Water Quality Certification permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to technical document preparation, data analysis, and visualization.
  • Support business development and proposal pursuits.


Experience and Qualifications – Early Career Water Resources Engineer or Scientist

  • Education : BS degree in environmental or civil engineering, or MS in environmental science with an emphasis in water resources, or a closely related discipline (required). Advanced degree (preferred).
  • Experience : 0-3 years of related experience including internship or relevant school projects, and/or highly relevant graduate study (preferred). Experience with numerical modeling and computer programming (Python, R, FORTRAN, or others) is strongly preferred.
  • Skills : Proficiency in using software like Excel, EPA-SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, CE-QUAL-W2, LSPC/HSPF, PRMS, EFDC, ArcGIS, and/or AutoCAD.
  • Certifications : Ability to obtain P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration in Oregon within three years of employment (strongly preferred).
  • Communication : Strong interpersonal skills and outstanding oral and written communication abilities (required).
  • Travel : Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel (required).

**EXPERIENCED - POSITION OVERVIEW**

As an experienced water resources engineer or scientist (PE, RG, or similar) in Portland, OR, you will work on complex projects involving innovative watershed and surface water systems. Our clients ask us to address their new ventures and ongoing projects involving water and natural resources and civil infrastructure. Your role will involve:

  • Hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and water quality modeling of surface water systems.
  • Hydrologic/hydraulic analyses and restoration.
  • Watershed management, NPDES and 401 Water Quality Certification regulatory permitting.
  • Lake management
  • Drinking water source protection.

Key Responsibilities - Experienced Water Resources Engineer or Scientist

  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams of colleagues, clients, and stakeholders on a wide variety of water resource projects
  • Surface water modeling: hydrodynamics, sediment transport and water quality modeling (1-D, 2-D, and/or 3-D), including potentially using programming for custom applications and data manipulation
  • Hydrologic and pollutant load modeling of watersheds and stormwater infrastructure
  • Assistance with NPDES and 401 Water Quality Certification permitting and regulatory compliance
  • Interacting with client representatives
  • Task and project management, including scoping, planning, performing, managing, and delivering on multiple concurrent project assignments
  • Leading and mentoring junior staff, overseeing their development, and helping recruit new talent.


Experience and Qualifications - Experienced Water Resources Engineer or Scientist

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering or MS in environmental science with an emphasis in water resources or closely related discipline (required).
  • Experience : 5-8 years of direct consulting experience on water resource projects or an equivalent combination of education and experience (required).
  • Skills : Proficient in numerical modeling platforms like HEC-RAS, EFDC, and geospatial tools such as ArcGIS.
  • Certifications : Professional Engineer license or similar (required).
