Description
Reusable systems with frequent launch cadence are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. A highly operable, reliable, and robust ground system is an integral part of a fully reusable launch system. As a Launch Construction Engineer for our dedicated launch complex at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, you will be responsible for developing and commissioning a new launch pad from scratch. You will be responsible for all phases of the launch site field construction lifecycle including overall build strategy and build execution. As part of a small, well-supported team, you will have access to the resources you need to get the job done right while simultaneously boosting your skills at a pace that can't be matched in most other roles. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly.
Responsibilities
- Develop, own, and drive overall site field construction strategy for critical ground infrastructure including site earthwork & utilities, static launch mount structures, launch pad structures, flame trench structures, lightning protection systems, tank foundations, integration facilities, ground recovery facilities, and other supporting structures & facilities
- Facilitate and drive coordination closely across all Launch disciplines and help define & drive field construction strategy for first flight as well as field construction strategy to enable a high-cadence, fast-turn launch site
- Leverage field experience in the designs of new systems to drive decisions that will assist the construction process
- Develop, own, and maintain scope development, build sequence strategy, and field construction schedule planning. Direct management of daily meetings regarding overall site planning and execution
- Manage, direct, and supervise contractors, sub-contractors, and field craft, including demolition contractors, civil earthwork contractors, concrete contractors, structural steel contractors, process piping contractors, electrical contractors, and vertical construction contractors
- Work to bring construction efforts in-house and help drive self-perform strategy
- Continuously maintain and improve the physical configuration of the system throughout ongoing operations and maintenance
- Work to uphold site safety of all construction activities, partnering closely with the contractors & sub-contractors
- Drive project execution quality and maintain site cleanliness
- 5+ years of experience in a related role working engineering, build, and management of critical infrastructure projects in aerospace or similar high-performance application (amusement park, oil & gas, heavy equipment, energy systems, etc.)
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of heavy-civil construction, including experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete structures, deep foundations, mass excavations, dewatering, and/or mass earthwork
- Demonstrated experience in project management fundamentals including scope definition, schedule & budget ownership, procurement, contracts, construction management, and field execution
- Demonstrated experience executing large capital improvement projects while driving economical and expediate solutions
- Excellent understanding of engineering construction drawings and construction means & methods
- Proven ability to lead, work autonomously, receive and incorporate constructive feedback, and work well on a high performing team
- Proven ability to effectively lead external vendors and contractors while driving projects to completion quickly and efficiently
- Proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project

- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, construction management, or similar field
- Experience managing construction projects for private companies located within a federal facility; experience working with 45th SW, 30th SW, and/or NASA and other government agencies
- OSHA 30 certified
- Proficient using AutoCAD, Revit, BlueBeam, and/or NX

Target Levels:
- Level 3 range: $123,000 - $184,400
