Description

As theStructures Engineering Manager for Helios structures, you will be responsible for managing of cross-disciplinary team that is responsible for the primary structure of Impulse's high performance cryogenic space transport vehicle.

Helios is Impulse's new vehicle, a 3rd stage/kick stage. Launching in 2026, it is designed to take satellites & payloads to GEO for 1/3rd of today's current cost.

Responsibilities

• Own all structural aspects of a cryogenic rocket tank assembly, including primary and secondary structure, payload accommodations, separation systems, and thermal hardware. Take strong ownership of minimizing weight and maximizing reliability and manufacturability, while delivering on schedule
• Build and mentor a team of high performing engineers across mechanical design, structural analysis, tooling, and testing
• Champion elegant and robust approaches to design and manufacturing
• Proactively guide the design of fluid and electrical subsystems into the vehicle architecture
• Perform and guide trade studies on manufacturing methods including stir welding, laser welding, forming, and machining
• Formulate strategies and provide direct support for structural qualification/acceptance testing campaigns, as well as design of new test stands
• Resolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutions
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science
• 6+ years of experience in mechanical design and/or development
• Demonstrated ability in conceptual design, fabrication and testing of hardware
• 3+ years' of demonstrated ability to lead teams through design, build, and test
• Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across disciplines
• Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns
• Capable of performing basic structural and thermal calculations in support of design
  
  

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Prior experience in liquid cryogenic rocket tank development and qualification
• Prior experience with friction stir welding and/or laser welding
• Prior experience in high performance, cost and mass optimized hardware design
• Experience defining and conducting development tests
• Experience defining testing instrumentation, including strain gages and TCs/RTDs
• Experience in a startup or agile development environment
• Proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in theform of stock options , and access tomedical, vision & dental coverage as well asaccess to a 401(k) retirement plan .
