Job Description

Role: MySQL Database Administrator

Duration: 6+ months

Location: Sunnyvale, CA, 94086

Interview: Phone and then Face to Face

Responsibilities:

1. Provision MySQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations.
2. Prepare documentation and specifications.
3. Handle database procedures, such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
4. Handle complex database procedures, planning, scaling, and optimization to meet the needs of the business.
5. Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary.
6. Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
7. Deploy, maintain, and monitor MySQL server instances in physical and virtual environments.
8. Develop and maintain replication, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
9. Ensure security, privacy, and data integrity in all MySQL environments.
10. Optimize and tune MySQL server performance.

Skills and Qualifications:

1. Expert proficiency in MySQL and Oracle database management.
2. Expert experience with recent versions of MySQL and in writing and optimizing SQL statements.
3. Strong understanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines.
4. 6+ years’ experience configuring and troubleshooting MySQL replication.
5. Ability to plan resource requirements from high-level specifications.
6. Familiarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.
7. Strong understanding of limitations in MySQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases.
8. Experience with database backup, restoration, and disaster recovery planning and execution.
