Position Responsibilities

As a Principal Engineer I, you will:

  1. Develop general infrastructure technology in a public/private cloud.
  2. Design, configure, optimize, manage, monitor, document, and support platform services and components, as well as supporting enterprise data ingestion.
  3. Be responsible for technical aspects of a project at the team level.
  4. Lead design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization.
  5. Spearhead new feature use (innovate within existing tooling).
  6. Spearhead new software acquisition and use (innovate with new tooling).
  7. Leverage automation to remove redundant error-prone tasks to improve the quality of the solution.
  8. Work with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams and establish a high trust partnership with internal business partners and other IT groups to support company initiatives.
  9. Provide advanced system administration, operational support, and problem resolution for a large complex cloud computing environment and develop scripts to automate the deployment of resource stacks and associated configurations.
  10. Extend standard systems management processes into the cloud including change, incident, and problem management.
  11. Develop and maintain a library of deployable, tested, and documented automation design scripts, processes, and procedures.
  12. Enable DevOps development activities and complex development tasks that will involve working with a wide variety of tools and container management systems.
  13. Coordinate and bring application experts and other infrastructure teams together for finding optimal solutions to issues related to capacity, security, and performance.
  14. Implement and maintain CI/CD solutions and create code deployment models to support self-service automation.

Qualifications

  1. A technical background and knowledge of big data foundational concepts such as relational database, data warehouse, and data lakes is required to help build and maintain robust, scalable data and machine learning platforms.
  2. Be well versed on general infrastructure technology and understand public and private cloud concepts such as Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
  3. Experience configuring and managing technologies used in big data and machine learning such as Snowflake, Spark, virtual networking in cloud environments.
  4. Experience with container orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  5. Experience with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform.
  6. Extensive experience and strong understanding of cloud and infrastructure components.
  7. Preferred technologies include Azure, event streaming, data transformation, data warehouse, Azure Data Factory, and Azure data lake and services.
  8. Strong working knowledge of networking concepts (DNS/DHCP/Firewalls/Sub-netting, etc.). Azure preferred.
  9. Automation experience. Strong coding and scripting skills (shell, NodeJS, Python, etc.).
  10. Experience in backend programming languages like PL/SQL, T-SQL, NZ SQL, etc.
  11. Awareness of DB Optimization techniques pertinent to cloud data warehouses. Snowflake preferred.
  12. Understanding of data ingress and egress patterns between cloud components. Big data Snowflake and different cloud service providers preferred.
  13. Proficiency in Spark and Snowflake platform Architecture, function/feature is a plus.
  14. Experience architecting and designing current systems.
  15. Advanced understanding of DevOps concepts including Azure DevOps framework and tools.
  16. Advanced understanding of monitoring concepts and tooling.
  17. Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
  18. Strong problem-solving ability.
  19. Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  20. Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication).
  21. Experience and good understanding of big data ecosystems like Hadoop, Spark, and Snowflake.

Experience

  1. 6+ years of professional software development and/or infrastructure experience.
  2. 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks.
  3. 3+ years of experience with architecture and design.
  4. 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.

Education

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.

Annual Salary

$72,000.00 - $236,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
