Design And Development Engineer

Summary / Objective:

The primary function of the position is to design and develop tire and/or wheel solutions used in off-road applications.

Essential Functions:

1. Creates parametric 3D models in CREO with accompanying 2D prints using GD&T toolsets.
2. Uses FEA toolsets to analyze designs for stress and fatigue.
3. Supports the development of FMEAs and the creation of appropriate validation plans for both tires and wheels.
4. Supports engineering testing activities in lab and on vehicles providing instrumentation direction and interpreting test results.
5. Reviews customer and supplier prints, models and design proposals for comment and approval.
6. Works with customers and suppliers to develop new design concepts and resolve existing design issues
7. Validates manufacturing, assembly, and service feasibility.
8. Supports operations to resolve product issues and brings new product to market.
9. Develops new product specifications and supports the creation of product design guidelines.
10. Applies technical expertise to problem solving throughout product lifecycle.
11. Other duties can be assigned based on company needs and employee capabilities.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. At times, due to projects or work assignments, employees will need to coordinate and direct a team to meet/satisfy individual/company objectives.

Work Environment:

This role operates in a professional office environment. There is a separate on-site Engineering Lab area where the use of specialized testing and measuring equipment is often required.

Physical Demands:

1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times (occasionally).
3. Utilizing engineering test and inspection equipment requires some dexterity and flexibility.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. To meet our customer demands and internal objectives, at times this role will may required work outside of the normal schedule, including weekends.

Travel:

5% domestic travel is anticipated, but occasional international travel may also be required.

Required Education and Experience:

1. BS Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar from an accredited university.
2. Minimum of five years of 3D modeling experience.
3. Minimum of five years of product development experience.
4. Working experience with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Education and Experience:

1. CREO 3D Modeling.
2. Tire and/or wheel design & development background.
3. Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) Systems such as Windchill.
4. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software modeling.
5. A 3D printing capability.
