Job Title: Data Engineer
Department: Information Technology
Job Purpose:
The Data Engineer role is critical in the process of implementing business intelligence solutions for the organization. This includes designing and developing data pipelines, warehouses, and integrations using best practices. The role will ensure the availability and accuracy of consumption and analysis by the organization. The data engineer will need to be familiar with key business applications and processes to assist in executing the organization’s data strategy in a scalable and reliable manner.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design & develop standardized reports using SQL Server Reporting Services, TSQL queries, and Stored Procedures
- Create tables, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers using SQL Server Management Studio
- Performance tuning and optimization
- Create data pipelines utilizing ETL and ELT methods from various data sources.
- Create, maintain, and support data warehouses/marts
- Report creation and maintenance
- Analyze data to improve processes and assist with defining key metrics.
- Create and maintain clear documentation of development, processes, and data flows.
- Create and design dashboards using Power BI & Tableau
- Development of integrations and data pipelines between applications
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skills:
- Collaborate with business analysts, subject experts, and other team members to determine BI requirements and develop enterprise level solutions
- Support IT staff and business users in the development, usage and troubleshooting of database-driven applications
- Respond quickly to bug fixes and enhancement requests
- Work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Knowledge of extracting data through API/web services
- Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of data warehouse design patterns
- Experience in data engineering and integration using Azure services
- Advanced knowledge of SQL BI Tools (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS)
Education:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
Experience:
- 7+ years experience with SSIS package development and SSRS report writing
- Knowledge of data warehouse design patterns
- Advanced knowledge of SQL BI Tools (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS)
- Experience with a major cloud infrastructure and architecture provider (Azure, Google, AWS)
- Data warehouse/ Data Mart development experience
- Python or R experience a plus
- Knowledge of extracting data through API/web services
- Experience in education industry a plus
- Experience with a major BI Platform (Power BI, Tableau, Looker)
Working Conditions:
- Ability to complete sedentary work for extended periods of time.
- Ability to operate office equipment including laptop, phone, etc.
Compensation & Benefits:
This opportunity is budgeted at $100,000 - 105,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
