Fresh Express is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic Engineering Designer & Project Manager with a specialty in Food Manufacturing Process, Equipment Hygienic Design, Packaging, and Warehousing to work with a high-growth company. Responsible for designing and executing production projects, presenting process improvement suggestions, and generating comprehensive documentation or manuals for well-designated projects. Design process improvement projects and lead installations & implementation achieving cost savings and improving productivity.

This individual oversees projects in areas such as production lines, building construction, packaging, mechanical, and electrical for manufacturing and direct activities, ensuring all projects assigned are on-schedule and within food safety and quality standards within cost objectives. The candidate for this position will have a strong background in perishable food manufacturing processes and project management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the corporate engineering team to design new production lines, packaging lines, warehouse spaces & building layouts.
  • Work with AutoCAD to create equipment, production lines & building layout drawings as required.
  • Identify new business opportunities and initiate Capital Appropriation Requests.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement new processes and systems to improve manufacturing processes and use of resources and materials. Analyze and identify opportunities to reduce process variation, improve process capabilities, and optimize process performance.
  • Evaluate Plan specs for optimal Food Safety, Safety, and Production efficiencies.
  • Coordinate with Contractors for equipment specifications, quotes, and design.
  • Manage and assign work to outside contractors performing layout design, programming, and installation work.
  • Scheduling, coordination, execution, and commissioning.
  • Develop project specifications and gain approval for capital and expense projects while demonstrating a ROI of all capital projects.
  • Budgeting and Procurement. Budget planning and management. Plan, direct, control, evaluate, and monitor budget.
  • Work with production on startup and training of new equipment and systems.
  • Support product development to include existing and new product lines. Coordinate scheduling, purchasing, and budgetary proposals.
  • Responsible for writing scope of Work, equipment specifications, and negotiating contracts with contractors, vendors, architects, and any other necessary person(s).
  • Secure licenses and building permits, and ensure the delivery of equipment and materials to sites under construction.
  • Ensure that issues that may arise while executing a project, including weather conditions or other emergencies that may pose a delay in the project completion, are resolved.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial), or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience with food manufacturing processes & AutoCAD software.
  • Coordinate/follow-up projects including CAD drawings, technical guidance for parts, equipment, and suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a noisy, wet, and cold environment of 36°F.
  • Availability to travel across all 5 facilities in the US & work on weekends when the project installation requires.
  • Broad knowledge of material handling, warehouse, packaging, automated warehousing, and mechanical and electrical related projects.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in CAD, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Excels at operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred PMP/PMI Certification.
  • AutoCAD Applications Software.
