HawaiiUSA FCU is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team. This role involves setup, support, implementation, and maintaining standards for servers and network systems, facilities, storage, data-backup, infrastructure, security equipment/solutions, telephony, related tools, software, and applications. Troubleshoot and resolve problems associated with local and wide area network environments, including systems monitoring, and network security elements.

The ideal candidate has knowledge of TCP/IP networking, Windows, systems analysis, network hardware and software installation and support, end user training, and receiving escalations from help desk technicians, as well as recommending updates to networks, policies, and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Network:

  • Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot network and telephony systems and applications.
  • Manage and monitor network infrastructure and security elements.
  • Review and recommend changes to network policies and procedures.
  • Manage storage, data backup, replication, monitoring of network traffic, and the overall effectiveness and welfare of the systems, network, and HawaiiUSA.
  • Support network hardware (firewalls, routers, switches, cabling, and network adapters) and upgrades; as well as related vendor communications.

Systems Analysis:

  • Perform assessments; participate in the design, implementation, and support of infrastructure, servers, storage, workstations, and related solutions and applications.
  • Perform evaluations of current and projected network, server, storage, and workstation usage strategy; recommend and develop utilization plans.
  • Perform assessments of infrastructure, servers, storage, and workstations based on best-practice guidelines and the implementation of corrective measures.
  • Perform tasks to assure compliance with CU regulatory guidelines.
  • May be called upon to review and verify vendor invoices and service maintenance contracts prior to approval by Accounting.

Hardware/Software Installation and Support:

  • Install new and/or upgraded software on servers and workstations.
  • Server related hardware and software.
  • Virtualization, Replication, and Backup.
  • Responsible for dealing with hardware and software vendors as well as technical support issues.
  • Troubleshoot PC software and coordinate with help desk as required.
  • Oversee software and systems administration including communications equipment designed to maintain wide area networks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Four-year university degree or college diploma in the field of computer science and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • Network+ Certification Required.
  • Security+ Certification Required.
  • Microsoft MCITP or MSCE Certification Preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and use of own vehicle.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years’ experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.
    • Experience managing 50 or more devices preferred.
  • One year experience at the Systems Engineer 3 level or equivalent.
  • Exceptional technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers, routers, bridges, switches, hubs, modems, network interface cards, and so on.

PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES FOR SUCCESS:

  • Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles.
  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel management skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Able to handle all confidential matters professionally; always maintaining the privacy of our member’s account information.
  • Able to travel to neighbor islands and out of state as needed.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged desk sitting and computer use.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and turning.
  • Lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
  • Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday to Friday.
  • Hybrid.
  • In office and on-site work required, as assigned.
  • Additionally, on call 24 hours/7 days a week, as needed.

BENEFITS & PAY:

The expected pay range for our Senior Systems Engineer role is $75,555 to $90,000/year.
