Job Summary
Responsibilities include wafer fab process development for advanced high speed photo detectors. Work will be done under the guidance of experienced IC design engineers.
  • Provide Materials and Process support for the development of new products from the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase to production release.
  • Investigate Metallurgy and Stress related factors from Bonding and Die attach.
  • Conduct process qualification studies to verify that the selected materials/processes meet the customer end product requirements.
  • Generate process documentation and ability to transfer some new processes to our high-volume coherent.com manufacturing sites in Asia.
  • Provide initial key feedback to the design teams on the manufacturability (DFM)of the new product.
  • Evaluate and establish process capabilities and take ownership for assembly yield.
  • Provide the required process and equipment training for onsite technicians and offshore personnel as products are transferred to production.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Investigate, DOE, and experiment on metallurgy and stress induced effects related to Die Bonding and Die attach.
  • Develop and model long cavity laser die bonding and sub-mounts of various form factors including interaction with vendor, customer, and Coherent inter-site collaboration.
  • P-side up and P-side down bonding development for laser and detectors.
  • Manage saw process for spacers used in facet coating technology.
  • Characterize the process output including across spacer and within spacer uniformity using profilometer, confocal microscope, and SEM when needed.
  • Design and execute Design of Experiments to optimize the process.
  • Summarize results and present status in monthly or weekly meetings.
  • Track Cpks and SPC parameters and retrain and enforce process and module procedures.
Education, Qualification & other Skills
  • Minimum 5 yr. experience - BS/MS Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • The ideal candidate shall have the following abilities:
  • Knowledge of opto-electronics packaging design and related materials and processes.
  • Hands-on experience with various assembly equipment and processes, such as epoxy/eutectic attach, wire bonding, optical alignment, flip chip, and mechanical assembly.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of UV epoxies specifically for optical alignment processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, teaming, and problem-solving skills.
  • Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp.
  • Able to work both independently as an individual contributor and as well as in a team setting.
Skills
  • Experience with device fabrication especially in dielectric etch and deposition.
  • Experience with metrology tools such as interferometry and ellipsometry.
  • Experience with SPC rules, control charts, and other aspects of manufacturing / operations are required.
  • Experience with PFMEA, DOE (design of experiment)
Working Conditions
  • Candidate to work on-site, Monday through Friday
  • Able to work in a clean room
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, carrying out multiple projects at a time.
