St. James Parish is hiring for a Building Electrical and Mechanical Technician I position under the Operations Department.
JOB FUNCTION: To perform basic, technical, and diagnosticduties in the repair, modification, and installation of various electrical,heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, electronic,fire alarm systems, energy management systems, boiler controls, pneumatic,instrumentation, and control systems. This job differs from Laborer II in thatit is of a more technical nature and performs basic level duties. This positionis classified as essential during declared emergencies or natural disasters.This is a non-exempt position, forty hours per week. This position is "Safetysensitive" and subject to random drug testing as per the St. James Parish Government Employee Handbook.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES : Includes any combination of the followingillustrative examples of duties and responsibilities including but not limitedto:
• Assistswith basic installations, alterations, maintenance, and repairs to electrical,HVAC equipment and wiring systems
• Makesinspections to determine the need for repair
• Performsa variety of manual tasks including but not limited to; loads and unloadsmaterials and supplies and equipment; halls or carries electrical material andlumber.
• Maintainsequipment by washing and cleaning
• Otherduties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONREQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, anindividual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below arerepresentative of knowledge, skills and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OREXPERIENCE : High School diploma or general educationdiploma (GED) and 2 years experience and/or training in the electrical and HVACtrade.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to add,subtract, and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, commonfractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY : Ability to define common sense understandingto carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involvingseveral concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES,LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS : Must possess a valid LouisianaDriver's License, (class "E") and have an acceptable driving record.
OTHER SKILLS ANDABILITIES :
• Basicknowledge of the Electrical Coe, Southern Building Code, NFPA Codes, Standards,and recommended practices
• Generalknowledge of the hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations inequipment operation.
• Workingknowledge of traffic laws and regulations
• Abilityto perform or assist in minor maintenance and repair or equipment operation
• Workingknowledge of traffic laws and regulations
• Abilityto perform or assist in minor maintenance and repair of equipment operated
• Abilityto perform physical labor required of the position
• Abilityto identify operating problems or equipment assigned.

Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit,reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, feelobjects, tools, controls, and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel,crouch, or crawl.
Theemployee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by thisjob include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision,depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : The workenvironment characteristics described here are representatives of those that anemployee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outsideweather conditions, extreme heat/cold, near moving mechanical parts, and isregularly exposed to vibration. Theemployee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works in high,precarious places.
Thenoise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
