Established in 1896, we are dedicated to the elimination of death, injury, property and economic loss due to fire, electrical and related hazards. The Association delivers information and knowledge through more than 300 consensus codes and standards, research, training, education, outreach and advocacy; and by partnering with others who share an interest in furthering the NFPA mission.

NFPA is seeking to hire two Regional Electrical Specialists over the course of 2024. Regional Electrical Specialists provide outreach and advocacy assistance to state and local jurisdictions for the use and enforcement of NFPA electrical safety tools and solutions, including the NEC and related electrical standards. They serve as an effective spokesperson for electrical safety and advocacy and are responsible for engaging and maintaining deep relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including electrical inspection professionals and the electrical industry to support NFPA’s mission at the state and local level.

The successful candidate has a keen understanding of the NEC and related electrical codes and standards at the state and local levels; experience in electrical safety, with a fundamental understanding of building, fire and life safety; strong communication/public speaking skills; the ability to maintain NFPA’s presence within a designated region; and implement the regional operation team’s strategy.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serve as an electrical subject matter expert for the regional team and other divisions at NFPA, providing content, speaking engagement and outreach support at the state and local level.
  2. Promote and support NFPA’s Electrical Inspection Section and the Electrical Section.
  3. Monitor and participate in legislative and rulemaking for use of the NEC and related electrical codes and standards at the state and local level.
  4. Represent NFPA at meetings, code hearings, and legislative sessions to support NFPA’s mission.
  5. Promote and assist with implementation of NFPA tools and solutions at the state and local level.
  6. Engage a variety of stakeholders in the region to represent NFPA interests and build deep relationships, coordinating activities with Association staff and membership sections.
  7. Continue to expand and maintain knowledge of electrical safety and the NEC.
  8. Contribute to the success of NFPA’s strategic plan.
  9. Identify opportunities and initiate efforts for NFPA to strengthen relations and improve safety in the region.
  10. Prepare reports and correspondence relating to responsibilities and feedback to the Association.
  11. Manage remote regional office and travel schedule.
  12. Monitor the status of activities within allocated budget.
  13. Assist with other regional and national activities as may be assigned.

Requirements

  1. Work experience in electrical inspections and the electrical industry.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in electrical-related curriculum or relevant building construction program or a related professional program and a high school diploma.
  3. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the use, promulgation or enforcement of electrical codes and related standards.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of electrical codes and standards and electrical safety.
  5. Proven public speaking experience.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
  7. Experienced in building and maintaining strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  8. Forward thinking with an ability to create and execute ideas and strategies.
  9. Up to 50% travel.
  10. Must have a valid driver’s license.
  11. A successful background check will be required.
