As a member of the Ryan Software Division, this position will be a critical contributor to an ambitious strategic initiative with the goal of re-envisioning a broad suite of enterprise level applications. Aiming to create simple and compelling user experiences, the Manager of Application Engineering will be required to draw on a depth of design and engineering experience building complex web applications and systems. Best equipped candidates will be highly proficient in front end frameworks (e.g. angular, react), C# and .NET, SQL, ReactJS, Typescript, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, web services, and testing practices. This position includes leading or managing teams, however has the opportunity to remain hands on. The candidate will play a significant role in building, development and maintaining our licensed software solutions.

Duties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results

People:

  • Create a positive team member experience
  • Manage Development Team work items, initiatives, and projects
  • Organize and maintain Development Team sprints and backlogs in conjunction with the Product Team to facilitate efficient work and project reporting
  • Participate in code reviews to help the development team maintain high quality of delivered code
  • Facilitate team retrospectives to help iteratively guide the team through tool, technology, and process improvements
  • Design and implement application and system architectures drawing on a deep understanding of application, system, and cloud design patterns.
  • Design and implement cost effective application and system architectures that allow for elastic scalability in response to changing workload.
  • Work with engineering teams to develop best of breed processes and development capabilities that maximize development efficiency and maintainability of applications and systems.
  • Work with engineering teams to develop and maintain value driven testing tools and technologies that establish high degrees of confidence in correctness, stability, and performance of applications and systems while also aiding engineering teams with responsive feedback throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and sales teams to continually respond to changing market needs, support requests, and aid in problem resolution.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for application and system architectures.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent related work experience. Ten or more years of enterprise applications architecture and development experience in a developer, architect, or managerial capacity.

Computer Skills:

  • Languages: Typescript, JavaScript (ES5/ES6), HTML, CSS, C#, and SQL
  • Frameworks: React, Bootstrap, .NET
  • Extensive front end experience with knowledge of multi-tiered applications
  • Nice to have: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Azure DevOps.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment:

  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the firm as well as interaction with external vendors and clients as necessary.
  • Independent travel requirement: up to 10%.
