Ecovyst's subsidiary, Ecoservices' Baton Rouge, LA plant is on the hunt for a Controls Engineer for our Platform Engineering group.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide process controls support to Eco Services’ Baton Rouge site as primary focus.
  • Provide process controls support to other Eco Services sites via remote servers as secondary focus. Complex changes or capital projects may require travel to other sites.
  • Maintain and provide support for site control systems: DeltaV and Allen Bradley PLC (RS Logix 5000).
  • Create/adjust configurations, control schemes, and graphics for site process automation requests (PAR’s) and capital projects.
  • Work with operations and/or project managers to generate controls narratives (scope of work) for PAR’s or capital projects.
  • Perform and coordinate interlock checks for all units turnaround schedule. Includes supervision of contract employees as necessary. Maintain testing procedures and retain documentation.
  • Provide support to operations personnel to troubleshoot day-to-day activities.
  • Support units during turnarounds, electrical outages, start-ups, and shutdowns.
  • Develop IE&C capital projects including design, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Execute capital projects, coordinating with contractors and operations to perform work in a safe and timely manner.
  • Monitor project progress and report on status, spending, and schedule.
  • Provide training to hourly and salary employees for changes to control systems.
  • Learn the sulfuric acid regeneration process to better support the site.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and discusses safety incident occurrences.
  • Provide technical support for safety resolutions and assists in development of the safety training within the department.
  • Participate in HAZOP and Management of Change (MOC) studies for area. Perform safety analysis of new changes to the system.
  • Enforce all plant policies and procedures.
  • Attend causal tree investigation meetings for accident/incident occurrences.
  • Utilize site safe work permits.
  • Attend monthly and quarterly safety meetings as required.
  • Complete computer-based training to comply with HSE requirements and policies.
  • Act as a steward for maintaining excellent HSSE performance in the unit – fulfill the HSSE Leadership Expectations.

Education and Experience:

To be successful and effective in position:

  • 5 years in chemical process industry.
  • 2-5 years’ experience with DeltaV or equivalent BPCS.
  • Bachelors degree (B.S.) from four year college or university OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Transportation Worker’s Identification Credentials (TWIC).
  • Experience with DeltaV.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC a plus but not required.
  • Experience in a production environment, preferably sulfuric acid.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Able to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely over email or TEAMs meetings to support other sites remotely.
