Controls/Process Engineer (Note, this is NOT a Software Engineering role)

The Controls/Process Engineer primary responsibility will be the technical ownership of the production process equipment, including the control systems of these pieces of equipment. This would include troubleshooting both hardware and software issues, as well as designing and implementing improvements. Provide hands-on and high-level conceptual assistance with a planned change to the process equipment control architecture from LabVIEW PC-based systems to PLC controlled systems. Also provides technical engineering support to the manufacturing operation to ensure well-designed and profitable parts are produced to meet customer and company expectations for specifications, costs, yields, quality and delivery, applying sound engineering principles and proven statistical methods.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop control systems for unique manufacturing equipment, utilizing PLCs.
  • Maintain and upgrade existing LabVIEW-based control systems.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support for manufacturing equipment, including the design, evaluation, troubleshooting, and modification of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Support process development, optimization, and yield improvement for polymer fiber optic materials.
  • Collaborate on new material/product introduction and process transfer to regular production.
  • Apply engineering principles to produce high-quality components and consistent yields.
  • Develop systems and layouts following lean manufacturing philosophies, emphasizing mistake-proofing.
  • Collaborate with engineering team members and machine operators to drive continuous improvement.
  • Investigate and propose applications of cutting-edge technologies in manufacturing processes.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven engineering experience in process and equipment design within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in electro-mechanical/controls/software (PLC, LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical schematics and layouts.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery).
  • Ability to work hands-on with production teams to design, develop, and implement new systems/processes.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000. The hired applicant’s placement within the range is based on qualifications and professional experience.
