We are seeking a Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) Engineer to provide engineering services and expertise to ensure the safe and reliable management of SIS throughout the entire IEC 61511 lifecycle. The SIS Engineer will be part of the SIS team, reporting to the refinery SIS Leader.
Location: Greater Chicago, Illinois. Onsite, 9 | 80 Schedule
Responsibilities:
- Support the Maintenance department in maintaining and troubleshooting installed SIS, including updating documentation, supporting test procedures, troubleshooting issues, reviewing critical work, managing MOCs, bypassing, recommending spare parts, and supporting turnaround scope development and execution.
- Schedule and monitor the completion of all SIS testing according to the proof test intervals specified in the SRS, including both periodic online testing and offline testing during outages and turnarounds.
- Engage in investigations and reviews of SIS events, such as failures, demands, and spurious trips.
- Monitor and evaluate the reliability of the SIS using a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) program, and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert for SIS and instrumentation during HAZOPs, including analyzing Independent Protection Layers (IPLs) and reviewing HAZOP recommendations.
- Lead and participate in Functional Safety Assessments (FSAs) as a qualified SIS engineer for both new and existing systems.
- Maintain and update SIS documentation, including Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS), datasheets, I&E drawings, FSAs, LOPAs, SRS, FATs, validation, and proof tests.
- Participate in audits related to SIS, such as those for Mechanical Integrity, Process Safety Management (PSM), and insurance risk.
- Design and manage small SIS projects, including design, MOC, construction support, and updating PSI documentation. Draft Engineering Work Requests (EWRs) for larger capital projects.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience working with industrial instrumentation.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in the process industry, with apreference for refining.
- At least 2 years of experience with Safety Instrumented Systems.
- SIS certification (CFSE or CFSP) or (FS Engineer) ispreferred , and must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
- Experience with Distributed Control Systems.
Package Details:
- Up to $180,000 base salary
- Up to a 15% target bonus
- 6% dollar for dollar 401k match
