This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a Lunar Thermal/Fluids Integration and Test Engineer, you will be responsible for designing test article(s) and test plans to support subsystem and integrated vehicle tests across our Propulsion, Fluids, and Thermal systems. Our system consists of Cryogenic Fluids, specifically liquid and gaseous hydrogen, oxygen, helium, and nitrogen. As part of a passionate and accomplished team, you will support the development, integration, and test operations of the Lunar spacecraft. You will contribute to the team’s progress by participating in all aspects of hands-on engineering and project management of the test article and the associated facility through integration and test. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spacecraft testing.

  • Relocation provided.
  • Travel of 25% during planning and probable travel of 75% during periods of integration and test to multiple test sites.
  • During test, ability to support 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift as required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop test plans and procedures involving high-pressure gas systems and cryogenic and non-cryogenic fluids systems.
  • Develop the implementation of test-specific facility requirements.
  • Develop interface control documents as required to interface with the facility and associated GSE.
  • Interact with customers as pertaining to test planning and execution.
  • Work independently to determine and develop approaches to solutions.
  • Work with the design and systems engineers, ensuring the tests are designed to verify the applicable requirements.
  • Participate in test readiness review, pre and post-test briefings, and post-test reviews.
  • Coordinate with the GSE team to identify, develop, and track test GSE.
  • Execute the test procedure, ensuring all steps and processes are followed in a safe and timely manner for both the vehicle and the associated test personnel.
  • Coordinate test crews and vehicle configurations for testing.
  • Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing.
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements, cost savings, and process development.
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline.
  • Must be able to graduate and start on/before September 2025.
  • 0+ years of applicable experience in the execution of cryogenic, thermal, fluids testing, or similar.
  • Strong desire to learn and deliver results.
  • Strong interest in fluid dynamics or thermodynamics.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with space vehicle thermal, fluids testing, integrated vehicle test design, operations, and maintenance.
  • Experience in component and system level testing of propulsion and spaceflight hardware through development, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns.
  • Experience defining, designing, and/or operating electrical ground support equipment.
  • Experience with scripting (Python or other scripting language).
  • Experience with software tools such as DOORS Next Generation, Cameo, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, Jules, and Windchill.

Compensation Range

WA applicants: $81,090.00-$113,526.00
