Job Description
As a member of this world class team, the Sr. Controls Engineer will lead and execute the protection and control aspects of Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be responsible for performing studies and translating these into specifications, designs, software, test plans, testing and commissioning of the protection and control aspects of static VAR compensation (SVC). fixed series capacitors (FSC), and synchronous condenser solutions within GE’s Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) portfolio.
Essential Responsibilities:
Lead the development of custom protection and control solutions, including coding and model-based control algorithms, hardware specifications, logic diagrams and schematics.
Lead the development and execution of test plans and for real-time digital simulation (RTDS) testing of GE FACTS protection and control systems.
Collaborate with a global customer base to resolve technical issues and questions related to controls.
Coordinate with sourcing, project and other engineering team members on technical matters to meet project specifications, costs and schedule objectives.
Support the development of the controls scope for proposals, including writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, time and material estimates and supporting sourcing on vendor quotations.
Direct designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements, and the development of technical responses to customers on comments they receive.
Support the development and execution of other programs including cost reduction, design and process improvements, obsolescence, automation, cyber security and new product introduction (NPI).
Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001 and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation.
Mentor controls engineers on the team to grow their experience and understanding of controls engineering including the development and design review process.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience.
Experience in PLC or automation controller programming using ladder logic, structured text or function block programming
Experience with DCS, HMI, RTU setup and programming.
Experience in microprocessor control hardware, firmware and architecture
Desired Characteristics:
Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, NERC PRC and NESC standards and codes, and ability to engineer design packages in compliance.
Knowledge of cyber security standards (e.g. NERC CIP, IEC 62443
The salary range for this position is 111,200.00 - 148,300.00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
