Job Functions
- Attend site visits to collect information required to complete the project design and permitting of such projects.
- Develop structural and electrical conceptual design, including technology selection, layouts and drawings, electrical and roof interface for solar electric systems and other energy systems that meet all national, local, and stakeholder requirements for the projects.
- Utilize modeling tools such as production estimating tools (PVSyst and PV Watts), financial modeling tools, and/or material optimizing methods to validate most appropriate design and material solutions. Coordinate with and manage detailed design activities from professionally licensed engineering support.
- Review and provide feedback on design progress drawings in order to work towards AHJ permitting and internal construction approval.
- Review and approve equipment submittals and RFIs.
- Assist project management team to resolve technical issues that may arise during construction.
- Provide support during the inspection of system installations in order to obtain final inspection approval.
- Manage resources and priorities to effectively meet required timelines.
- Provide technical support and deliverables for utility specific interconnection applications and approvals, rebate applications, performance validation models or any other technical support for commercial operation.
- Analyze PV commissioning from external parties to ensure system health and quality; including, but not limited to QA/QC reports, IV Curves, Capacity Tests, and other completion documentation.
- Coordinate with O&M managers to effectively turnover projects for continual operation
- Requires time at various projects locations.
- Requires frequent (over 25% at times) overnight travel, may include auto, air, rail travel.
- Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.
- Sitting or standing for extended periods is common.
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle
- No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally may be required.
- Work independently and with people, speaking in front of groups and with individuals, customers, management, engineers, subcontractors, manufacturers, and suppliers, etc.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, in hot or cold conditions, and around construction project sites
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred) and/or a combination of equivalent education and equivalent work experience.
- 5 years engineering experience in Distributed Generation, specifically solar and/or BESS.
- Proficient with National Electrical Code and other relevant IEEE/industry standards.
- Experienced with medium voltage equipment standards and implementation practices.
- Capable of performing design, permitting, and commissioning activities with multiple types of energy projects.
- Professional Engineer License
- Master's Degree in engineering or relevant field
- NABCEP Certified
- Proficient with Procore
