A leading company in the renewable energy sector is seeking a highly motivated SCADA Engineer with proven experience in utility-scale solar. The SCADA Engineer will optimize controls and communication systems for a growing portfolio of Solar and Storage assets. This role is critical in the I&C and Control Center group, ensuring effective, safe, cohesive, and scalable control solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Technically lead the I&C organization's SCADA team on multiple projects
- Maintain existing controls and communications systems
- Serve as technical lead for SCADA providers/vendors
- Design and implement next- control systems for a large-scale Solar and Storage fleet
- Develop maintenance schedules for SCADA and I&C equipment
- Manage complex tasks and projects for Operations & Maintenance
- Aid with system troubleshooting and perform root cause analysis
- Serve as main point of interface/SME for facility control questions
- Coordinate with compliance team
- Review design elements related to SCADA and controls
Desired Education and/or Work Experience:
- Strong knowledge of automation protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, RTU/TCP, DNP3)
- Understanding of power plant operating procedures
- Familiarity with SCADA platforms in renewables
- B.S. and/or Masters in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineering (PE) license, Engineer in Training (EIT), or desire to obtain one
- 4+ years of experience in electrical equipment operation and troubleshooting
- Experience in data analytics using programming
- Experience in electrical maintenance, power systems, and relay operation
Requirements/Work Environment:
- Office environment with occasional field visits
- Ability to obtain unescorted access for specific facilities
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to travel and work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends
Location: North Carolina - Durham - Hybrid work. Other locations available as well, if you are open to travel to Durham every two - three weeks for the first 6 months.
