Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our client, a global leader in friction welding solutions, at their South Bend facility. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who excels in a dynamic and innovative environment. You will be responsible for designing, integrating, and maintaining electrical and software systems for custom-built friction welding machines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop advanced control systems for friction welding machines.
- Design, code, test, and debug system software, including machine start-up and troubleshooting.
- Interpret control system requirements from customer specifications and develop technical documentation.
- Create electrical wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and HMI programs.
- Provide on-site and remote support for machine optimization and troubleshooting.
- Lead initiatives to enhance control system standards and validation methods.
- Travel domestically and internationally (20-30%) to support customers.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in control systems engineering, preferably in special-purpose machinery.
- Strong background in electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical design.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Ladder Logic, ST/SCL) and software such as Simotion Scout, TIA Portal, or similar.
- Experience with Siemens and Allen-Bradley systems is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and create detailed technical documents and schematics.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours.
Preferred Skills:
- PLC/Motion Control Programming: Experience with platforms such as:
- Simotion Scout
- Logix Designer / Studio 5000
- TIA Portal
- HMI Design: Proficiency with platforms including:
- WinCC
- FactoryTalk View Studio
- FactoryTalk Optix
- Experience with SINUMERIK configuration.
- Programming in S7-GRAPH / Sequential Function Chart.
- Electrical schematic and panel design using ePLAN.
