JOB TITLE: Data Engineer

PAY RANGE: $115,000 to $155,000

POSITION SUMMARY: Supports the technology and infrastructure of Data Analytics to meet business requirements by providing technical advice and user support. This position uses computers and related systems to design new solutions, modify, enhance, or adapt existing systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, modifies, and maintains assigned programs and databases. Monitors the operation of assigned programs and databases and responds to problems by diagnosing and correcting errors in logic and coding.
- Extracts, transforms and loads data from various sources into the organization’s cloud-based data warehouse and automates processes when possible.
- Works with the Program Manager to support data flow from transactional database to data warehouse and third parties.
- Creates reports and analyses as requested.
- Troubleshoots technical issues and identifies modifications needed in existing applications and databases to meet changing user requirements.
- Analyzes data contained in the corporate databases and identifies data integrity issues with existing and proposed systems and implements solutions.
- Modifies database structures and programs to increase processing performance (performance tuning).
- Tests programs and databases, corrects errors, and makes necessary modifications.
- Provides technical advice and support to users, including creating ad-hoc reports, data analysis, training, and problem solving.
- Establishes the needs of users and monitors user access and security by specifying which users can access databases and what data can be accessed by users.
- Establishes working relationships that support successful accomplishment of WSHA goals and objectives.
- Contributes to overall WHSA efforts by communicating regularly and effectively with team members.
- Provides a high level of customer service and satisfaction by developing excellent working relationships with internal and external “customers.”
- Roles and responsibilities may be altered to accommodate changing business conditions and objectives as well as to tap into the skills and experience of incumbents.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required. Graduate degree strongly preferred.
- Three to five years of experience in data analysis and data analytics, including demonstrated proficiency with analytical software.
- One to three years of experience in progressive healthcare preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, and software applications.
- Familiarity with cloud computing solutions.
- Experience in the development and implementation of standards, procedures, and guidelines to support operational processes.
- Familiarity with various types and sources of health care information, including financial and claims data files (e.g. Medicare Cost Reports, Department of Health hospital financial data).
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
- Ability to demonstrate strong conceptual and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong system acumen.
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Comfortable giving and receiving feedback in a constructive manner to colleagues and supervisors.
Computer Skills:
- Strong SQL skills, particularly MS Azure SQL and Snowflake Data Cloud.
- Matillion ETL skills for creating and scheduling data pipeline processes.
- Strong programming and data analysis skills in Python and R.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications.
