Summary
The SAN Engineer reports to the Manager of Hosting Services team and is responsible for day-to-day operational support for storage and server infrastructures. Innovative problem-solver and motivated strategist, responsible for supporting and maintaining highly available, high-performance, and cost-optimized computing platforms to support the Firm's IT needs. Specific areas of focus include implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the Firm's enterprise storage and server infrastructure. Displays a focus on continuous improvement driving appropriate actions to improve on the hardware, software, and processes that are currently in place. The engineer should understand solutions as well as have the experience to engage stakeholders and colleagues alike to achieve defined business outcomes.

What you'll be doing

  1. Ensure effective support of the Firm's enterprise storage and backup ecosystem, spanning across both on-premises, public cloud SaaS / PaaS / IaaS, and private cloud datacenter solutions (e.g., EMC, Cisco, VMware, Microsoft, Commvault).
  2. Plans and manages the installation, configuration, and tuning of enterprise storage array hardware, SAN fabrics, and the physical and logical components that integrate these systems together.
  3. Build, configure, patch, and provide expertise with troubleshooting of physical and virtual servers.
  4. Maintain a thorough understanding of Windows and Linux server operating systems and drive solutions to support ongoing application needs.
  5. Create and maintain the ongoing hardware maintenance requirements and patching schedules. Leverage the NOC team to assist in the execution of maintenance.
  6. Utilize server and enterprise storage platform monitoring and reporting solutions to support and troubleshoot infrastructure systems.
  7. Work with architecture and support teams to develop, implement, and document on-going policies, standard operating procedures, run books, and communications to ensure consistent storage and server provisioning, uptime, compliance and data protection.
  8. Manage and provide current disk storage usage statistics and provide future projected growth estimates.
  9. Adhere to documenting the problem management process and perform corrective and/or ongoing actions as assigned by the manager. Maintain problem management for the department reporting issues.
  10. Create and implement changes to storage and server infrastructure to ensure continuous improvement and break/fix resolution.
  11. Participate in critical cross-functional operational tasks, including creation, adoption, migration and disaster recovery initiatives.
  12. Collaborate with architecture and service teams to establish multi-year roadmaps for infrastructure service areas across datacenter.
  13. Engage with developers and DBAs to establish optimized environments across functional areas of responsibility.
  14. Develop automation, orchestration and cloud-based systems design.
  15. Communicate effectively and appropriately with both technical and non-technical audiences. Ensure transparency and well planned-out communication.
  16. Ensure effective vendor relationships with IT staff as it relates to value delivery and support.
  17. Familiarize with Program/Project Management solutions and processes use both to establish and track designated initiatives and status updates.
  18. Familiarize with ITSM tools including ServiceNow and/or others in place.
  19. Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with SAN and NAS storage management and monitoring.
  • Experience with Dell EMC storage platforms.
  • Experience working in a Windows Server/VMWare environment.
  • At least some cloud experience.

Nice to have experience

  • Demonstrated experience with designing and deploying cloud services across IaaS, PaaS, SaaS (ideally Azure), as well as on-premises data center-based solutions including Converged / Hyper Converged Infrastructure.
  • Configuring and troubleshooting Client and Cisco UCS servers.
  • Scripting experience.
  • ITIL foundations certification.
