Position Title: Casting Engineer
Reports To: Engineering Director
Position Summary:
Hunt Valve, a Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD) company, has been manufacturing valves for naval customers for decades. As the company continues to grow, we are looking to add a casting process subject matter expert to support procurement, engineering, and operations. This position would also support cast product efforts at other facilities within the FMD family of companies. This position would lead production yield improvement efforts by working with foundry vendors on a direct basis. Hunt offers a unique working environment that allows a hands-on individual to develop and grow as the company expands its footprint and maintains high performance as a trusted defense contractor.

Essential Job Functions:
- Interfacing with vendors, customers, as well as pertinent internal organizations (engineering, procurement, quality, and operations) to champion resolution of casting related issues that challenge successful order delivery.
- Develop continuous improvement initiatives for casting related efforts both internal to the company as well as proposals to drive improvement with vendors and support shipyard customer desires for improved throughput.
- Overcheck reviews of casting pattern development, molding strategies, and pouring plans to support opportunities for improvement with foundry vendors
- Communicate project intentions and status to customer shipyards as well as the government end-user(s) (i.e., Navy)
- Support coordination of pattern management as well as production strategy (vendor selection, sole source determinations, etc.)
- Coordinates activities with in-house manufacturing shop personnel and our outside vendor base concerned with technical developments, design for manufacturability, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems.
- Support qualification of new and existing foundry vendors and help maintain sound working relationships.
- Ability to communicate clearly to peers, management, customers, and vendors. Robust written and verbal communication capabilities are both a must.
- Demonstrable knowledge in various aspects of casting methods, including sand, investment, and centrifugal casting
- Familiarity with Naval casting and casting repair specifications (e.g., TP-278)
- Familiarity with materials predominantly used by the company for Naval applications, such as Copper Nickel, Monel, Stainless Steel, Nickel-Aluminum and other Bronzes, etc.
- Ability to self-manage work in an environment of numerous competing tasks, including wherewithal to ask for help when needed.
- Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) and other manufacturing and inspection aspects are preferred.
- Highly motivated "self-starter" that is eager to put in work to help the organization be successful and to build their own career.
- Willingness to see problems and drive towards a solution without requiring instruction on a step-by-step basis.
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering is preferred
- 5-10+ years experience with leading casting design and/or processes
- Must be able to communicate effectively in writing, by phone, and face-to-face.
- Working familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of products
- Familiarity with a mechanical / fabrication environment is a plus.
- Occasional travel (<25%) to vendors and other company facilities
