Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a driven Network Engineer to join our dynamic Network and Unified Communications Architecture team of network and UC engineers in Alexandria, VA. The team provides IT hardware and software to support the goals of the contract, including performance based C4IM services, product support, and O&M for both legacy and newly installed systems.
Peraton has served as the prime contractor for the network contract since its inception in 1984. We provide executive-level government leaders reliable security voice, video, and fax communications anytime, anywhere, in any environment for day-today crisis management. We provide a secure, worldwide, high-performance communications network comprised of real-time interactive applications operating over a dedicated IP backbone with secure services for complex national and worldwide executive-level communications. Peraton provides the O&M of the network infrastructure and its components. We provide integration for development of hardware and software solutions, and task support for the delivery of system, network, software, and security solutions.
In this role, the work is hands-on and you will be support the creation and review of network designs, conduct hardware evaluations in a lab, and with vendors. An excellent candidate will not shy away from writing a test plan or reading through vendor's technical documents to solve a problem and write a resolution report. Additionally, possessing specific hands-on technical experience with Cisco collaboration tools, CUCM/CM, and CMS is highly desired.
The Network Engineer is responsible for but not limited to:
- Evaluate LAN/WAN performance and capacities to identify problem areas or bottlenecks.
- Perform a variety of network management services related to the operation, performance, or availability of data communications networks.
- Responsibility for overall performance and availability of networks
- Provide LAN/WAN support with skill in network analysis, integration, and tuning.
- Analyze client LANs/WANs, isolate source of problems recommends reconfiguration and implementation of new network hardware to increase performance.
- Work with customers and operations staff in scheduling preventive and emergency maintenance to include resolution of customer tickets.
- Support on-call duty on a as needed basis, in response to network outages after 6-9 months of service.
- Implement networking technologies and concepts (such as Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols).
- Management of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones, call managers, and gateways.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- An active/current TS/SCI Security Clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (or similar technical field) and five (5+) years relevant experience; Master's degree and three (3+) years of relevant experience; PhD with zero (0) years of experience. Nine (9) years of relevant experience in the above-cited duties may be substituted in lieu of a completed higher education degree.
- A current/valid IAT LVL III Certification (Security+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP, GCED, GCIH, and CCSP).
- Experience and understanding with Cisco and Juniper devices, VLANs, VPNs, LAN/WAN technologies, and/or routing & switching.
- Experience in two (2) to three (3) of the following areas:
- Network troubleshooting
- Routers/switches
- Cisco IOS/Junos OS
- Firewalls
- NetScout/Wireshark or any other packet investigation/analysis tools
- SolarWinds monitoring or database tools
- Call Manager & unity or other OSCP, DNS, QoS, VPN
- Operational experience with local and wide area network infrastructures (including routers, firewalls, switches, servers, and related hardware).
- Previous experience supporting a Government and/or Department of Defense customer.
- An Engineering degree with a networking focus.
- Experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (formerly Cisco CallManager, now known as Cisco Unified CM or CUCM) and Cisco Meeting Server (CMS) platforms is highly desired.
- Ability to generate documentation that describes standard operating procedures, which will be used by help desk personnel.
- Experience with application of DoD IAVAs and STIGs.
- Proficient in network monitoring/management systems familiarity.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong investigative drive and listening skills, self-motivated individuals.
- The ability to work under pressure and be flexible with their time.
- Ability to prioritize and document tasks is a plus.
