The Personalized Investing Engineering (PIE) organization builds innovative products that personalize our client’s investing experience, with a primary goal of delighting our clients and empowering them to meet their financial goals. PIE leads delivery of three products, each with a common focus on personalizing the investment experience. The Digital Advice (DA) group manages a suite of Schwab automated investing products, including Schwab Intelligent Portfolios (SIP) and SIP Premium. We are looking for a highly motivated, organized Sr. Engineering Manager to lead and develop successful teams. You are a technology leader with previous hands-on experience as a technical lead or an architect who is passionate about software development. As Schwab’s Sr Engineering Manager, you will have the opportunity to work innovatively and collaboratively with product and technology partners to carry out Schwab’s vision to be the most trusted leader in investment services.

What you have

Required Technical Skills

  1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or related degree and practical experience.
  2. Experience as a technical lead, coaching and mentoring a diverse, geographically distributed team of application developers. Must be a good leader, guide, and support the team, business, and partners with solution development.
  3. 5+ years of hands-on experience with application and service development or solution architecture building complex, resilient, and highly scalable applications in a large enterprise.
  4. 2+ years of experience running software development teams in medium to large enterprise web development environments focused on sophisticated projects with multiple dependencies.
  5. Must have excellent understanding of engineering standard processes and new and emerging technology trends.
  6. Understanding of agile methods and processes, and capability of supporting agile project teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact, and risks, taking account of technical and architectural debt.
  7. Demonstrated history of setting a higher standard on staff delivery performance and cultivating dedicated work environments.
  8. Experience redefining teams through technology, organization, culture, process, and changing business norms.
  9. Experience with Test Driven Development concepts; we take full ownership of our code and its quality.
  10. Experience demonstrating Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment and DevOps principles.
  11. Deep experience in RESTful service design and implementation.

Preferred Technical Skills

  1. Master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  2. Knowledge of cloud computing platform technologies (i.e., AWS, GCP, Azure, PCF).
  3. Experience developing distributed multi-tier applications and complex platform integrations.
  4. Experience in Financial Services.
