Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (Mandarin)

Location: Cupertino, CA 95014 (5 days onsite, open to relocating candidates)

Travel Expectations: International travel of up to 25%

Term: Perm/Full-Time/Direct Hire

Salary: $130,000 - $150,000 per year + 20% annual bonus paid around March of the following year

Company Size : HQ in Shenzhen, China and established in 1995. We started in the US in 2008. Currently, the US division has around 30+ employees with a production facility and 2 offices in Cupertino.


Current Engineering Team : One department, different products. Currently, we have 4 Engineers and 2 Sr. Managers who report to the Tech Team Director in the US.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with customer engineering and internal cross-functional team members within the company to design, build, and test components or final products.
  • Develop and explore mechanical design concepts to meet product performance requirements.
  • Define, build, and evaluate physical prototypes for assigned mechanical packages/components.
  • Perform tolerance analysis on part designs to ensure assembly, functionality, and cosmetic requirements are met.
  • Create design documentation, including specifications and drawings, necessary for manufacturing assigned parts/assemblies.
  • Conduct mechanical performance assessments on components, subsystems, and full assemblies while thoroughly analyzing results.
  • Work directly with NPI and manufacturing to optimize part and assembly designs for manufacturability, cost, and quality.
  • Effectively communicate results through informal peer reviews and formal design reviews.
  • Partner with manufacturing to define, specify, and validate test equipment/processes related to assigned part and/or assembly designs.
  • Provide onsite and remote support for prototype and production part and assembly builds at the factory.
  • Work closely with customers and internal teams to develop and validate new manufacturing or assembly procedures that meet product performance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and recommend design modifications to prevent future occurrences.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering field is required. Master’s or Ph.D. are advantageous.
  • 1-3+ experience in mechanical engineering within the consumer electronics industry.
  • Experience in part/module-level design to top assembly design. MUST HAVE Cooling System/AI Server/Motor Module/Mesa Module/Haptic Module/Hinge Module experience in consumer electronics manufacturing. Knowledge of mechanical design structures for consumer electronics (Display, Acoustic, Antenna, EE, HWTE, RF).
  • Experience supporting new product launches; 3+ years of product design experience is a plus.
  • Experience in product or process development, launch, and qualification.
  • Experience with automation and assembly processes, as well as secondary operations such as CNC, polishing, laser etching & welding, PVD, blasting, and glue dispensing.
  • Proficient skills in 2D & 3D CAD modeling; experience with Creo, NX, SolidWorks, or Unigraphics is desirable.
  • Simulation (FEA) experience from school or work.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation, Designs of Experiments (DOE), and statistical process control methods and theory (SPC, CPK).
  • Advanced proficiency in written and oral communication in both English and Chinese Mandarin.
  • Ability to travel internationally, up to 25% of the time.


Interview Process:

2-3 rounds total. There will be a tech round interview, HR round, and final with the Director or GM. Bay Area candidates will be asked to do an on-site for the final interview.


Additional Information:

We are a company from China. Contract manufacturing firm catering to many consumer electronics brand to mass produce products. Employees can learn very fast, give them a lot of experience, and learn a lot in the consumer electronics manufacturing with full support that they need and career growth. Night meetings are part of the norm, dealing with colleagues and customers who are based in China. For the Engineering team, schedule is on-site 9:30-5 PST. Sometimes they may have meetings late at night. In this case, they can come in late the next morning if coming from a very late meeting. It's ok to come around 10:30 or 11am.
