Infrastructure Engineer

Position Overview

This Platform Engineer role is responsible for the design and architecture of infrastructure systems in the public and private cloud, L3 systems escalation from the Operations Engineering team, and designing/standardizing solutions across the Technology team. The individual will have a strong storage technology understanding and be able to own operational issues. The successful candidate will be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, analyze technical problems and create solutions with existing techniques and tools. The successful candidate will have the drive to work with the Operations Engineering team to implement automation solutions to eliminate recurring problems and to work with other technology teams to propose solutions to needs/issues. An understanding of high-level infrastructure goals and the candidate’s ability to communicate those to other technology teams will be required.

Responsibilities:

1. Manage systems and storage escalations from the Operations Engineering team
2. Provide workarounds and fixes to issues that arise
3. Provide Level 2 and Level 3 storage support
4. Create automated processes to address recurring issues escalated
5. Mentor and educate team on best practices on scripting and code releases
6. Manage the design and architecture of the systems infrastructure
7. Primary responsibility for the storage environment (Netapp and Pure), including operations
8. Shared responsibility for configuration management for Linux and Windows servers
9. Shared responsibility for the virtualization, Citrix, and IaaS cloud environment
10. Shared responsibility for datacenter server and storage hardware
11. Seek opportunities to improve monitoring, systems architecture, and cloud readiness of applications outside of infrastructure
12. Build understanding of GMO-specific business processes
13. Build understanding of common application and end-user computing issues and work towards removing these issues
14. Collaborate with other groups to develop disaster recovery and high availability needs of applications
15. Develop and maintain the ServiceNow environment
16. Work closely with Operations Engineering to prioritize new self-service automation catalog items
17. Continually make the CMDB the source of truth for all CI’s.
18. Continue to support the user onboarding/offboarding process workflows

Requirements:

1. Five or more years of related work experience
2. Strong analytical and research skills to troubleshoot problems and spot patterns with issues that arise -must be detail oriented
3. Demonstrated ability to work with a team and troubleshoot problems with speed and efficiency
4. Experience working with a public cloud (Azure preferred)
5. Experience managing and maintaining Netapp and PURE storage arrays
6. Scripting using PowerShell, REST, JSON, Python or Bash
7. Strong understanding of multiple operating systems – Linux and Windows.
8. Experience implementing, managing and maintaining large scale (1000+ VMs) virtualized environments
9. Strong scripting capability around systems integration and management.
10. Strong understanding of application virtualization / delivery systems
11. Experience with multiple monitoring methodologies, WMI, SSH, agent based, SNMP and push pull concepts
12. Experience with infrastructure as code development techniques and tools such as Azure DevOps, forking, branching, and pull requests
13. Open to learn new concepts in areas of technical and business process
14. Capability to effectively interact with external people on technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations
15. High energy, positive attitude, professional and mature

Preferred:

1. Has worked in a multi-datacenter infrastructure environment. Understands networking concepts in that type of environment
2. Experience implementing and using configuration management tools such as System Center, Puppet, Chef or Ansible
3. Strong SOP writing and documentation for architecture and system design
4. SQL and Oracle basic understanding

Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 a year. This salary range is estimated for this role and actual pay may be different based on a candidate’s qualifications and/or years of experience. In addition, this position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus award, which award may be determined by individual, team, department and firm performance, and is subject to the terms of GMO’s compensation plan. This position is also benefits eligible.
