Argonne National Laboratory, a Department of Energy Laboratory operated by the University of Chicago (UChicago Argonne LLC), is a national leader in basic and applied research, including cybersecurity, critical infrastructure resilience, and artificial intelligence. Argonne was born out of the Manhattan Project and in 2021 celebrated its 75th year of research into peaceful uses of nuclear energy and many other frontiers of science and technology.
Work at Argonne is diverse, high-impact, and fast moving. The Modeling and Analytics Group is comprised of computer software engineers creating complex models, integrating cutting edge technologies, and developing analytical tools to support energy and national security. These models and tools are developed by our group and used both internally at Argonne and by external sponsors for making critical policy and crisis action decisions.
We’re seeking a team member to support the Strategic Security Sciences Division in our efforts to is to develop large scale modeling, simulation, and analysis platforms in the areas of energy, military, transportation and supply chains. The work involves gathering requirements, designing and implementing complex modeling, simulation, and data analysis software, preparing and delivering full-orbed training and user documentation for the analytical products. Incumbents will be required to maintain cutting-edge knowledge of advances in modeling, simulation, machine learning, and data analysis techniques and tools. Application of new and advanced techniques to very large problems will be key to the long-term success of the programs. Development will be on personal computers, high performance computer clusters, or cloud resources.
