Principal Systems Engineer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Principal Systems Engineer will perform the following essential functions:

1. Lead a diverse engineering team in the development of advanced multi-function RF, processing, and/or data storage units for space applications using Systems Engineering methodology.
2. Collaborate with program management to lead program planning and execution within cost and schedule constraints.
3. Own the engineering process on the program and ensure the proper systems analysis and trades, technical baseline management, and requirements verification and validation activities are completed.
4. Work with engineering discipline leads to assign appropriate staff to their projects.
5. Act as the program technical champion / representative / POC.
6. Prepare for, and present at, all major design reviews, including internal and external (customer) reviews.
7. Provide technical expertise in planning for IR&D and new product initiatives.
8. Support proposal efforts for new business opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification: STEM Bachelor's, Master's, and/or PhD.

Career Experience: 12+ years relevant experience; 2+ years' experience as a technical project lead (e.g. IPT lead, functional lead, or equivalent).

1. The ideal candidate for this position will have equal parts technical competency, forward-thinking ideas, and a focus on execution.
2. Understanding of space industry product development life cycle.
3. Practiced in the use of Systems Engineering methodology.
4. Ability to lead multidiscipline teams (e.g. system, hardware, software/firmware, and integration and test) through the development of complex electronic systems to meet rigorous space application requirements.
5. Ability to balance technical performance with program cost and schedule targets.
6. Excellent organization and communication skills, and team leader.
7. Must be a U.S. person for exposure to export-controlled information; desire for U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

1. Communication: Frequent communication with other employees. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
2. Repetitive Motion: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
3. Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents, products, and/or operate machinery.
4. Physical Strength: Sedentary work; must be able to remain in a stationary position most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs)

WORKING CONDITIONS

Typically a quiet office environment or remote telework.
