Job Summary: Under the direction of the Chief TV Engineer and Technology, Senior TV Engineer (Maintenance), performs a variety of complex and specialized duties of television broadcast RF transmitters and systems involving the implementation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of broadcast systems, software, equipment, and related systems at Milwaukee PBS Television stations. Performs duties as “Engineer in Charge” on station and remote productions.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. RF Broadcasting: Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs TV broadcast RF transmitter systems, networks, automation systems, storage systems, servers, digital asset management, traffic systems, digital video and audio, editing and encoding systems, and other associated equipment, systems, and software.
  2. Software Management and Administration: Manages and maintains editing workstations, servers, digital library archives, editing software, and all related production software to support Milwaukee PBS programming.
  3. Digital Platform Management and Administration: Performs technical implementation of internet video/audio/data distribution including streaming, webcasting, podcasting, datacasting, and other new media distribution platforms.
  4. Support and Training: Maintains technical standards for audio and video and RF systems throughout the station. Provides technical support to equipment and system users and supervises training of staff.
  5. Collaborative Teamwork: Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with internal teams, including producers, writers, videographers, editors, etc.
  6. Ethics and Confidentiality: Practices honesty by demonstrating a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles, values, truthfulness, and accuracy in all actions.
  7. Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in industry trends and technological advancements of technologies, procedures, and software relative to television broadcast.
  8. Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support station objectives.

Education & Experience:

Required: Associate’s degree in television broadcast RF transmitters, TV engineering, or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in television broadcast IT/TV engineering functions; or other equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in television broadcast RF transmitters, TV engineering, or related field and prefer seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible work experience in television broadcast IT/TV engineering functions.


Licensure/Certification:

Required: None

Preferred: Appropriate SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) certifications and/or RF transmitter certifications are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the integration of broadcast maintenance with broadcast digital video, audio, equipment, and systems.
  • Experience with appropriate programming languages and scripting as related to television broadcast IT.
  • Knowledge of network transmission methods and communication protocols.
  • Ability to perform system administrative and management duties.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
  • Knowledge in VDI, Microsoft OS Servers, Active Directory, management network infrastructure, data storage, and backup systems.
  • Knowledge of broadcast television station engineering and production workflow.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on sensitive issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently and as a team member.

Start Date: This position supports the Milwaukee Public Broadcasting Station.


Hours: This position is a 1.0 FTE or 40 hours per work week.


Salary: Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2024/2025 rates and determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
